getting around sitka

The majority of Sitka's main attractions are conveniently situated within walking distance of the city center, with Lincoln Street spanning about one mile from end to end. Additionally, numerous hiking trailheads are readily reachable from the downtown area.

A complimentary shuttle bus runs from Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal to downtown Sitka every 10-15 minutes. The journey takes about twelve minutes and stops at Harrigan Centennial Hall. The final shuttle returning to the cruise terminal leaves thirty minutes before all passengers must be on board. Certain ships use water tenders from anchorages near Crescent Harbor in Sitka Sound.

The RIDE is a fixed-route bus service consisting of three lines that reach residential neighborhoods across the community, covering almost the entire 14-mile route. Buses usually depart every hour, and passengers can buy tickets directly on board.

Sitka is recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community, boasting well-defined bike paths and a recently added single-track biking trail. Visit Yellow Jersey Cycles for rentals and enjoy cycling along the 14-mile road, discovering Sitka's beautiful beaches, or venturing to the more remote trailheads.

Tips for booking third-party excursions:

Booking third-party excursions can be a great way to save money and enjoy a more authentic experience, but there are a few things you need to consider when booking:

  • Look for a "Back-to-Ship Guarantee".
  • Read the cancellation policy carefully and make sure you will be refunded if the ship does not make it to that port for some reason.
  • Make sure you understand where to meet & when, and how to get there.
  • Double-check to make sure the tour times work with your time in port.

We recommend booking through specific suppliers we work with regularly, as all of their options are purposefully

made to fit within the timeframe of your cruise ships schedule, that specific day in port. Please let your LV Travel

Co Designer know if you are interested in seeing these options, and they will send over their specific link.
